Description
I like the dappled reflections in the water…and the cloud pattern was excellent to capture in this view.
Juxtaposition of Iceberg relative to the rock outcropping beyond.
Iceberg is motionless…where waves are active…
Specific Feedback
Composition and Exposure - I could likely have taken this image at F/16…not sure whether there would be benefit in this.
Exposure was higher than I expected…

Hi, Stephen. Thank you for posting here at NPN! I really enjoy the composition and overall cool tones of this image. The rippled water is nice, especially how most is dark but there are a few spots where the reflection of the glacier is hitting the water, resulting in a nice contrast. Hard to tell at this size but DoF looks good; not sure why you’d need f/16, especially with such a wide focal length. I would be tempted to re-work the sky, lightening the clouds while leaving the blue areas alone to provide a little more punch. Please remember that our posting guidelines allow for only one image to be posted, per forum, per day.
I’m always impressed by white icebergs. They’re kind of shocking. You might also consider processing this in b&w and play with the tones in the sky. Darken it or add contrast.
Hi Bret,
Thank you for your comments. I’m quite new to post production applications…and just learning bit by bit about Lightroom. Currently I haven’t used it on any of my work as I’ve just been using the Photos App imbedded in my iMac…so lightening the clouds is something I’ll pursue. Best regards, SJ
Hi Igor,
That’s a good recommendation…to consider B+W…as I can already imagine it.
I’d taken some rudimentary B+W Courses while studying Architecture at Ryerson [Toronto]…now called the Toronto University…back in the day they had a brilliant Journalism & Photography School…so had quite a wonderful experience in the Darkrooms burning and dodging…experimenting essentially…so must now embrace the digital replacements. Best regards, SJ
