Beach Foam

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

While hunting for bugs, I found lots of foam along one of the beaches. Wave action generates bubbles which bind with proteins and organic molecules making them more durable. The original RAW file was low in contrast and a small curves adjustment brought out the contrast.

Specific Feedback

This type of image can be cropped in many ways. I chose this one to preserve the darker areas which provides some eye candy for the comp. What do tou think?

Technical Details

Z9 105mm f2.8 Micro (1/200sec at f22, ISO 1600, fill at -1.3ev) DeNoise, slight cropo for comp, Levels, curves adjustment…

I like this, Jim. You included just enough of the beach sand to reveal where the foam is at maybe. I like all the different shapes of the clusters of foam as well as what looks like maybe could be your reflection in the bubbles. Very nice.

Jim: Lots of crop possibilities for sure and I like what you did here. Sometimes the dark corners pull my eye and others I’m OK with them. I think filling the frame with just the bubbles would be successful as well. Nice find and a fine capture. >=))>

Very cool, Jim and I think I see lots of little Jims in the bubbles. To my eye, the larger bare area in the lower right corner tends to anchor my eye a bit and I’d probably try a slight crop from the right to reduce the impact of that area.

Great, that you took the photo. So many details here. I found little green dots, the bubbles have white edges, it’s a world of its own. I guess many macro photographers like drops and reflections. I share the opinion of the other commenters that there are many possibilities for cropping here.
