I agree about the slightly static look of the bird, Allen. You also have a bit of a fringe around the bird, particularly evident around the beak where it’s changing the color of that rock behind it. If you have the pixels, you might try going with more of a close-in shot including the nice beach rocks that are in focus, but eliminating most of the water, which isn’t doing much for me in this one.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank for your insights. I went back to the beginning to re-work this. The fringing was from the NR in DxO-first time I’ve noticed that occurring. What I ended up with is probably a more natural look, though the rocks don’t pop as much. I took out some of the water, but added some foreground rocks to keep a similar aspect ratio-more of a pano crop didn’t appeal to me.
I’m not sure why, but the plover seems to be showing a bit more personality in the repost, Allen. Good job on the repost.
Thanks, @Dennis_Plank , I think the original was over sharpened, giving it a somewhat plastic look. A case of less is more.
You’ve captured a lovely little bird in a very nice setting. I love the muted colours. Your repost looks much better to me.
Like @Dennis_Plank mentioned, if you have the pixels I might consider a much closer shot, taking out the foreground sand (and rocks) and cropping in from the left. I know beaches are usually on a slope, but feel this image could benefit from a little levelling?
