Robert;
I like small forest scenes too. Both spring and autumn. In my case mostly on the other side of the Middle Fork of the American River canyon in the Auburn SRA (State Recreational Area), California.
I also noticed you had a 70-200 with a 2X teleconverter. I used to have exactly the same setup - until I sold them both and bought the 100-400 with the proceeds. [It’s still my favorite landscape lens.]
From the lens + teleconverter setup, it looks like the trees were on the other side of a canyon or valley. Did I guess right?
Your image gets two thumbs up from me.
Cheers,
Franz Gisin
Thank you, @franz . You are close; the subject was on the other side of a lake in west Michigan. I’ve since switched to Canon and now have the RF 100-500 which I absolutely love for scenes like this. The trees are just now starting to bud here so I am hopeful for some productive image making in the next few weeks.
