Image Description
This year, once again, and even repeatedly, we were fortunate enough to be able to photograph the shy caracal from the hide. She was very alert and would frequently jump up to look around her while drinking… and not always without reason

The cat seems startled by something, or is maybe being very cautious before it puts its head down to drink. It is peering into the dark and seems very alert.
It’s great shot Ingrid, capturing the moment. The pitch dark background, the reflection in the water (is this a lit waterhole?) the low angle and the framing allow the cat to be the entire focus of the viewers attention.
Thanks @Ryan_H and @framingtheuntamed. The photo is indeed taken at a lit waterhole. Later we saw a hyena coming into view, which was what had startled the caracal.
Jealous of this one, as I have yet to see this species in the wild. I think the darker exposure works nicely here (it’s so easy to bring everything up too much in these night hide shots), and the composition is excellent.
