Colors of polar night

December light in northern Lapland. The sun will still be below the horizon for a few weeks, but the light is incredibly beautiful

Very nice work Jorma! I really enjoy your composition. Everything just feels right about it and I like how the river leads my eye to the most colourful part of the sky. I also like that magenta colour cast in the shadows and I think it compliments the yellows and oranges in the sky perfectly.

What a beautiful scene you have captured. Coming from a part of the world where you have to move expeditiously to capture a good sunset I can’t imagine the luxury of having a sunset go on for hours at a time.I love this image. My only comment is with the trees all having a dusting of snow the river path appears less dramatic than it might be if there was more definition in the image. I wonder how it would look if you used a luminosity mask, focused on the tree bases, and with a curves adjustment darkening them just a bit without diminishing the snow covering on the branches.
Lovely image

Another nice scene that you’ve capture in your area! I like your choice of composition here. Nice textured water in the river, leads down to the reflected light downstream…nice!

I have to disagree with @Tom_Nevesely about the color cast in the shadows. The magenta/purple cast and the cyan color cast in the shadows doesn’t feel natural to me, and one of the most common issues on the MVP 2 sensor. I pulled the image into PS and played around with the file, and both are easily corrected. For the cyan cast I brought up a selective color adjustment layer, selected cyan, the reduced the cyans, and added a touch of yellow and it looks good! For the magenta/purple color cast on the right side of the frame, I just did a hue/saturation adjustment layer, got the eye dropper and hovered the eye dropper over the color cast area, which the selection ended up being blue, then just desaturated and it looks much better to my eye. Lastly, I would bring down the overall exposure slightly.
