Confluence #2

Image Description

One from last fall (the colors don’t get going here until late October or November), at my favorite creek in Whiskeytown Park. The background trees were still green (early Nov.), but the Indian rhubarb (Darmera peltata) had some lovely color.

Is this just annoying or does it work? When I made it last fall, I was on the fence. Looking at it now, I think it’s not too annoying.

Pertinent Technical Details

ICM, obviously. Processed in ACR and PS for various targeted exposure and color adjustments.

I don’t know Bonnie. I am on the fence about it too. On the one hand it has a pencil sketch feel to it, but then it looks to random a movement to make it make sense as an artistic effort rather than “oops I just bumped my tripod and I think I will just call it an ICM”. I mean it has some appeal, but then it is not sitting right with me as I want to see it in focus.

Thanks, @Youssef_Ismail. That’s the kind of input I wanted.

I meant to comment on this when I first saw it and got sidetracked. But for me it works very well! It has an impressionist feel that we can’t always get with ICM. I think the top half is maybe a bit overpowered by the water. How about a crop of maybe 1/5 from the bottom, or some darkening there? Definitely not a failure!!!

Bonnie: I find it interesting that in the small version the amount of water seems about right but in the full size I agree with @Diane_Miller about toning down the water with a crop. The overall color palette is very pleasing and I like your artistic rendition.>=))>

Thanks, @Diane_Miller and @Bill_Fach. I agree with you about the ratio of water to forest. I saw that as soon as I posted it (isn’t that always the way it is!). I think a crop from the bottom will be the ticket.

That is what I was aiming for.

Hi Bonnie, I love this. It’s very reminiscent of impressionistic painters. My only thoughts are that it looks like there are some splashes (maybe) that are directed across the general flow of the image. Not sure if they’d be easy to clone out, but overall I think the image works.

Hi Bonnie! When I saw your photo, my first thought was, if Monet were a photographer, this is what his work might look like. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Monet. I’m drawn in right away, but if I look too long, I start to lose the image. Your photo feels the same way to me, in the best sense. It’s soft, intriguing, and hard to look away from.
