Cormorants in Flight

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I’ve taken a lot of cormorants in flight and have rarely been pleased with the results as the birds are usually in the sky without any background or just flying by some uninteresting rocks. This was a rare occasion where I saw them low to the ground against the waves. Not much detail in the birds, but I like the overall scene.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

I really like the background of waves in this image, Allen. Cormorants are pretty dark birds, but the silhouette look of these seems a bit incongruous against the waves. Did you try bringing up the birds to see if you could get a bit of detail to show? If you could get something in the other two equivalent to the bit of light in the leading bird I think it would make this image even better than it already is.

HI Allen, I like the backdrop the ocean gives for this scene. Seems pretty unique and artistic for a cormorant flight image. I like the wing positions of the birds and how their dark bodies contrast with the rest of the image.
