Dance of the Window Frost

The Exuberance of Frost

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was staying a couple of nights in a cheap Montreal hotel room. It had been a chilly night; in the morning the window was covered in frost. The window was facing east; the sunrise was painting the frost with colour. These photos are each about 8 inches wide. A couple of minutes later the frost was melting.
I don’t often see frost like this anymore since the change to double- and triple-pane glass. Makes me miss single-pane glass!

Patrick, both of those images are amazing! The warm morning light fully revealed the crystalline structure of the frost and added beautiful color.

Nice!

Whoa!! These are stunning, Patrick! I’m a sucker for a nice warm/cool color combination and the color reflections and crystalline structure of the ice is fascinating to get lost in here.

Fascinating, beautiful and fantastic.

These are extraordinary Patrick. The patterns and the colors mixed in are exquisite!!!

I’m with the others! These made me stop and stare. They are just gorgeous - the color and the clarity and beauty of the ice crystals and patterns. Very inspiring to see the small things.

I agree with all that’s been said above. These are really beautiful. I can imagine them printed large on metal or glass creating a really nice focal point on a large wall that lacks windows.

I have one single pane window in my house (in a stairway to an upstairs that rarely gets used). I’ll have to check it more often. Alas, it faces north.

Patrick: Spectacular both! What makes this even better is that these images are unique and impossible to ever duplicate. Great captures of some wonderful never to be repeated moments. >=))>

Very striking! The colour palette and patterns are just mesmerizing.
I remember being fascinated, as a child, with the frost patterns on my bedroom window. Fond memories, thanks!
Exceptional images!

Patrick, this is outstanding. With modern windows, getting a good frost pattern has disappeared. You’ve done very well here both with the pattern and with the colors coming through.

I just have to add my voice. These images are outstanding! I can only agree with the others - the detail, light and colors are excellent. I’m glad you captured these in time before they disappeared. Excellent work!

Not much for me to add to the comments other than, WOW! So cool.

These images are amazing. I love abstract images and these have a fantasy element to them. Great work. I think these would be stunning as metal prints. My only suggestion, and it’s a minor one, is for the 1st image - try cropping the left side of the image a bit. I think I like th edited version a bit better - seems more balanced to me.
