Decaying Stump #2

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There is a two trunk stump in the woods nearby that has fascinating patterns on both sides. This is view covers 4-5 inches on the long axis. The convolutions in the internal wood of the region below and between the two individual trunks are quite amazing with a variety of faces and swirls.

Specific Feedback

Trying to select what to show is always a fun challenge, although there are some dark areas that are best left out.

Technical Details

R5, 180mm macro, 1/4 s, f/8, iso 800, tripod, 2 s timer. A 40 shot stack for full depth-of-field.

Is this a drone shot of interesting topography beneath?
Is this a macro image of a tufted hand woven carpet?
Either way I love the texture, patterns and colour in this image.

One thing for me personally Mark however is that I find the top right hand corner distracting. That dark patch drags my eye.
Lovely image though.

Wonderful!! I would go nuts trying to decide on a composition but can’t fault this one. The dark spot is a bit of an eye magnet, though. I wonder if it can be lightened?
