This view is of the decaying wood originally deep inside my favorite stump. For what was likely a tall straight forest tree, the convolutions are pretty amazing. (7D2, 180mm Macro, 1/10 s, f/11, iso 800, tripod, 4 shot stack)

Great comp and nice work on the focus stacking.
Mark, I am enjoying your stump pictures. This is amazing with all of the nice shades of brown, lines, textures and shapes you managed to capture in such great detail. Keep them coming!
Wonderful! I do have to be amazed how a large tree has such a convoluted structure. Is this a piece of exposed root that blew down in a wind or something like that?
Diane, do you really belive that I can’t tell the difference between a root ball and a stump?
