Gorgeous!! I think it would be even more wonderful (and mysterious) just cropped in to the damaged wood without the bark on the sides. It evokes some sort of carved text in some ancient language.

Dear James, I absolutely love this one. I’ve been trying to photograph these kind of “tunnels” on my own, so I know it is not that easy to find a composition that works. You definetely found one. I also think that the brown and grey colouring is great. Just a small hint from my side: maybe I would slightly rotate the image so that the bark and the side of the image are parallel.

A really great find! Detail looks perfect, the contrast of gray and brown accentuates both, and the side bark gives some context. I agree that it needs a bit of rotation so the bark is parallel
