Delayed Gratification

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Chrissy planted this Kalanchoe early in the Spring and I’ve observed it all year trying to come up with a decent comp. Today it has grown tall enough to poke above the fence line just a bit and benefit from morning backlight and the BG of our Bougainvillea. Tried a stack but too breezy. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Is the BG Bougainvillea a complement or a distraction? I did subdue the luminosity of it a bit. Enough?

The background works well for my taste, Bill. Maybe come down on the brightest red area just a tiny bit, but that’s getting really picky. I would like to see a bit more room above the plant as it feels pretty crowded up there to me. Depth of field is just fine without the stack.

Very nice image with repeating shapes. The red in the BG looks fine and maybe a tad more room on the top will strengthen the comp. I like the red tones in the leaves which provides some additional color to the comp…Jim

Wonderful!! The backlight is amazing and the Bougainvillea is the perfect touch!! Another vote for more room on top. Content aware or AI fill would probably work, with maybe some clone repair.
