The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
Looking at the blueberry bush to check it growth, i took this photo not realizing that the dew had left many drops on the bloom. It wasn’t until i looked at the image later in the day that i saw all the drops and the spider web.
Specific Feedback
Do you think there is too much space above the bloom?
Should more of the stem have been included although it was not in focus and a bit distracting?
Technical Details
Using a Sony a7RV and 24-105mm lens. Had i known about the dew - i wasn’t able to see it as it was too small for my eyes- i would have used a macro lens. I was impressed the lens was able to capture as well las it did.
The subject is excellent and I think that the spider web adds something necessary to the comp. I wish for more space on the bottom of the frame as my only nit. Well done…Jim
Welcome, Taiyo. This is a beautiful first post. I like the space above with that spider web crossing it, so I wouldn’t crop up there. I do like @Jim_Zablotny 's idea of adding a bit to the bottom. I don’t think it would have to be very much. To my eye, the dew drops look just a tiny bit oversharpened, but that’s a very minor nit.
I really like this image and I’m looking forward to many more posts from you and seeing your comments on other people’s images.
Thank you Jim and Dennis; i agree about the need for a bit more space on the bottom and i was qualifying about adding it … i shall do so when i print it. Much appreciation.
Welcome to NPN, Taiyo. I like this very much, especially the wide range of beautiful colors. I agree with Dennis about there being perhaps slight over-sharpening. A quick rerun (or cloning) could remove the faint fringing on some of the outer drops. As for the composition, I actually like it - very original. I look forward to seeing what you can do with your macro lens!
Taiyo, welcome to NPN. This is a great first post. You’ve put together the colors, the dew and that strand of silk very well. In looking at the large version, the slight color fringing looks like the optical distortion called Chroma and that’s an indication that you’re trying to get too much magnification from this lens, but it’s clear that you already know that. I like your framing, but would suggest burning-in the bright, slightly soft bits in the corner, that will make them less noticeable…of course, you could also clone them out… The details in the buds are gorgeous.
Taiyo: Let me add my welcome to NPN and thanks for a fine first post. You’ve set a high bar for yourself and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work. I’m in agreement with the others regarding just a touch more room on the bottom and perhaps a little less sharpening but the subject is wonderful with the drops and the spider silk being great complements. Great to have you aboard. >=))>
Very beautiful, I think the Spider web adds a great element to the image , especially because it doesn’t look like it actually connects to the buds. I don’t mind the space at the top, the web helps make that connection to the top, also the darker part of top splits the background so there is not an overwhelming monotone to the whole background. The bud itself with the droplets is gorgeous and the detail holds your focus.
Great picture! The colors are very nice.
The dew drops seem to be a bit oversharpened and some look also a bit edgy with a bloom around but it can be due to my eyes as well
Welcome to NPN Taiyo. This is a fine image for your first post. I agree with @Dennis_Plank as to the appearance of slight over sharpening. But what a capture. I have to admit that raindrops on flowers is what got me into digital photography. When I would see the refraction is the drops I was really excited. Great work and again, welcome. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Welcome, Taiyo! A beautiful image. I agree with others that you needn’t crop above. The dewy web is an important piece. I don’t think you need more at the bottom. I like the composition as you have presented it. And yes, give me the dew! I saw your other image without the dew, and this one is so much more compelling.
