Early morning before the storm

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

It was a frigid morning, and the first major winter storm was approaching Yellowstone National Park. Although unprepared, I didn’t take too long to get the shot, as I saw a few other photographers dressed correctly. It was surreal for me as the sun was rising, but the storm clouds were fighting it, creating this early morning clash.

Specific Feedback

Let me know what I could’ve done better or what other considerations I should’ve taken.

Technical Details

Shot with my OM-1 MK II using the 12-100m F/4 lens in aperture priority at f/7.1 with an exposure time of 1/25 Sec and 14mm focal length.

Robert: Marvelous atmospherics and a very inviting scene. Going to Yellowstone in winter is on my bucket list and this helped to push it a touch higher. Did you stich images together or simply crop? If it’s a crop I might like to see just a tiny bit more FG and perhaps bring up the brightness there a little more. Still pretty darn good as presented. >=))>

Hi Bill,

Yes, I cropped it and I agree I need to add a bit more foreground. Great suggestion on brightening up the FG. As luck would have it,
I’m heading out Tuesday to West Yellowstone and I’ll be doing a snow tour on Wednesday. Hopefully I’ll get some good shots. Thanks for the input.
