Embracing Change

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The aspen trees in Ouray Colorado were just stunning, and it was fun to play with different compositions. I hope this qualifies as “intimate” but I could crop in on less trees for more intimate. I worked with different views, more backlight, more yellow on the trees, but settled on this one with the sky peeking through.

Specific Feedback

Any feedback is fine. The raw file trees were darker, of course, and more backlit, so I made them whiter/lighter - thoughts on that?

Technical Details

Fujifilm XT5, XF 16-55 at 48.5mm (75 mm in 35mm format), 1/220 sec, ISO 500, f11 , close to sunset at 6:12pm in Ouray Colorado 9/28/23. Edited in Lightroom and Photoshop to lighten trees.

Roberta: At one time I thought shooting aspen groves could not be much of a challenge until I tried it myself! Much more difficult to find a compelling group and comp than one would imagine. I think you did really well here and hope that if I get another chance I can come up with something close to as good as this. Well done. >=))>

Roberta, great fall colours here, and the white trunks set them off perfectly. I might crop just a tad tighter, to get rid of that small bit of vertical trunk on the left. That might change the right border too, and then it may need re-centering.
A really fine image!

I really like the color, the depth and the light in this image. Nice set of aspen. It is one to sit and sip a nice cup of coffee over.
