Engine Can

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Rummaging around in the basement again and found this one. A .psd file dated 2003 so it would have been a film scan. The only other info says Ontario, ID, so it would have been in a junk pile at a small airport on the way to/from the ID back country, undoubtedly a fuel stop. It would have contained some sort of aircraft engine, probably military, maybe mid-century or earlier. This was in a folder of abstractions and textures and I don’t find anything else that would provide context.

Specific Feedback

All comments welcome!

Technical Details

An old slide scan. The only layers above the BG are a color correction and some edge cloning. I basically never flattened files even back then so it’s probably the way it was.

I really like all the decay showing on this case, Diane. The overlay of various stencils also makes it interesting. You have to wonder if it’s still taking up space at the Ontario airport.

What a find!! endless areas of interest for the eye to explore. The stenciling and rust spots are marvelous.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank and @SandyR-B! I’m always delighted to find things like this! (I always check out dumpsters, too.) It probably got cleaned up years ago, and for whatever reason we haven’t stopped there in a long time. The navigation app on Ted’s iPad lists fuel prices as well as everything else, and he’s, um, thrifty, so cheap fuel is a big determinant for routes.
