Evergreen Winter in the Pacific Northwest

While this is far from true Pacific Northwest rain forest, there are relatively few dry days from the beginning of the October rains through at least May in this area and the mosses and sword ferns love it. This is a typical chunk of 3rd or 4th growth forest (actively logged) taken yesterday.

Canon 5DIII, EF 28-70 f/2.8 @ 42 mm, tripod with ballhead and cable release, f/22, 0.6 sec, iso 500, manual exposure. Processed in LR and PS CC. Just enough crop to straighten (picked an arbitrary tree trunk that looked about average). Taken yesterday at 10:44 am under overcast skies.

For me, Dennis, this is a beautiful sight! Living in an area that only gets (on a really good year) 38" of rain this is a gorgeously envious photo. I like the sloping angle with the ferns in the foreground and most of the trees in the background. Also get a sense these trees and ferns are quite happy with all the rain they receive. Nicely seen.

Dennis, the glow in the moss covered branches and their curved shapes make a fine image. The glow from the skylight sets them off well even as the low contrast lets us look deep into the forest.
