Fall on the Yellowstone

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Fall colors have been mostly muted, so I had to go back two years to find this reflection view of the Cottonwoods along the Yellowstone River. There was very little wind (which is unusual for this area) so the reflections are reasonably clear.

Specific Feedback

I was (am) intrigued by the mix of reflection abstract and reality that seeing the rocks along the bottom of the river.

Technical Details

R5, 24-105 @ 105, f/16, iso 800, tripod.

What an intriguing image! The reflections of the aspen leaves and trunks are facinating, and looking through them to see the underwater rocks adds a new dimension.
We don’t have much colour here in Oregon, so I’m very envious of those who do.
A very neat image!

Mark, it’s a very interesting image. I think it’s one worth viewing at full size; the contrast between the rocks and the reflection works better at the larger size.

I don’t really think it needs any changes, although it might be interesting to enhance the slight blue tint of the water for more color contrast with the yellow leaves.

It is a muted autumn this year, although we are finally getting some nice color in the DC area

Nice reflections, Mark. There’s enough ripple to make it a true abstract while still letting the subject seep through nicely.

Will, adjusting the blue reflection from the water is something that I did. However, I toned it down, thinking that by doing so, the rocks below the surface would not attract as much attention…
