Falls Close-up #2

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Here’s another close-up look at the ~ 9 inch high waterfall that starts my water feature. The vertical size here is around 3 - 4 inches (7-10 cm)high. String algae clumps (orange dots) are causing the ripples in the falling water. The colors are a mix from rocks and algae behind the falls as well as reflections from the surroundings and sky.

Specific Feedback

The mix of ripples and colors is what grabbed my attention as I “played” with photographing the falling water…

Technical Details

R5, 180mm macro, 1/400 s, f/8, is0 6400, tripod. AI noise reduction in LR Classic. A fast shutter is required to minimize blurring of the water shapes.

Almost looks like feathers, Mark. A delightful abstract.

A beautiful range of colors, Mark, to go with the clear patterning. Maybe tone down the white blob in the URC a bit?

Mark, this is a treat to view. I agree with @Dennis_Plank that it almost looks like feathers.

At first glance I thought this was an ICM of leaves. Not sure I would have guessed a waterfall. I still can’t figure out how you achieved this effect, but it works.

Chris, this is “all natural”… There are three small blobs on the two string algae strands coming down the left side of the frame. Those blobs cause the ripples in the falling water. What I’m less sure of are the colors. Some are from the rocks and algae behind the falls (orange and green) while others are from the sky (blue and white), I’m guessing that the other colors are mixtures from those two sources. While I could see textures and colors in the viewfinder, I couldn’t tell the final result until I saw camera’s jpg.

Nice capture!

Another lovely waterfall shot, Mark. I also got the sense of a feathered bird breast of some sort. It might be, for lack of a better word, the thoracic shape at the top and the ribs formed by the ripples.

I love this as is. I can see a slight crop off the top. I like the whites and I do think they add some tonal variety, but I can also see losing the undulating shapes in the top right.

Beautifully done again. Keep em coming.

Mark: Best of the bunch for me and another delightful impossible to duplicate image. Most excellent. >=))>
