Fire In The Sky

Image(s)

Image Description

This one is an oldie from 2008 that hasn’t seen the light before; at least to the best of my knowledge. This image was taken not long after sunrise from Cadillac Mountain during an autumn trip to Acadia NP, ME. I captured several images that I quite like from that particular morning. As a side note another photographer and I started chatting and it turned out to be Mitch Moraski ; a fellow member at the time; from NPN. He was in Acadia with his friend Kurt Budliger. During our stay my brother and I had dinner with them a couple of evenings at The Thirtsy Whale in Bar Harbor. Great time by all.

Wow! Amazing light, and I’m particularly struck by the defined edges of the thermal turbulence against the sun. I associate that with desert heat but it’s really only variations in what – refractive index? – from temperature fluctuations. Or something like that… I love the hint of flat land and sea in the LL against the misty hillside. No nits!!

Wow, this looks like a wildfire. Amazing sunrise that proclaims, " red sky at morning, sailors take warning." You have created real drama here. The top edge of the foreground is blurry. Is this your intent or do you need some localized sharpening? Impactful image.

Ed: My first impression looking at the thumbnail was that it was a fire image. What a marvelous scene superbly captured and presented. >=))>

Ed, this does look like a fire image. Wow, quite the sunrise. I like how the moving fog separates the foreground ridge from the distant flats.

Ed, this is seriously dramatic! When I first opened it, I too thought it was a fire image; I’m glad it wasn’t.

You did a great job on this one!
