Ben, this image is like a stronghold for my eyes. I feel the cloud’s power front and center (literally). The houses in the FG help to show how large the scene is. I especially like that several terrain elements and curves help to keep the eyes in the center of the photo. Finally, the color palette brings a sense of the coolness surrounding the area. What a beautiful image you shared here!
This is gorgeous!
I love the way the hills gracefully roll into the valley and how the cloud is nestled into that valley.
The buildings add such a nice element to the scene, they show how humans are an integral part of nature. It seems that many people want to eliminate any signs of human existence in landscape photography, I understand it and respect it but for me, I enjoy seeing landscape photography with human elements in them, it somehow validates our existence and demonstrates how we can live in harmony with nature.
And of course I enjoy landscape photography without signs of humans as well.
The upper clouds add a sense of movement, this is truly a unique scene because moments before and after this, the scene was different because of wind and temperature changes.
I also like how the sunlight is gently breaking through, illuminating the right and left sides as well as highlighting the cloud in the center so nicely. The light in the rest of the scene is pleasantly subdued, the intensity variations are well blended and that helps to hold my attention throughout.
It’s just a very well balanced and very well composed image in my view, Ben!
Thanks for sharing this and the others from this area!
P.S. I almost forgot, an improvement might be made by cropping out (or cloning out) the building on the right where it’s cut-off, having half of a structure on the border is a little distracting but in this case its a very minor thing.
I love the poetic description. Very fitting for the image. The fog is quite an imposing element and provides a well-balanced feel along with the rest of the elements in the scene.
I see triangles as the main element of composition. At first glance one sees the triangles of the mountains a the land defined by the green trees. Looking deeper the meadow or foreground land also has a gentle triangle. keep looking and there are mpre triangles within the mountains, and the white fog cloud is a triangle too. For me, this is what makes the image so successful. I wonder if there’s a way to create more transparency in the big white fog cloud, maybe by reducing its opacity some. I don’t know how to do this offhand. Wonderful image, Ben.
@EgĂdio , @Merv , @DeanRoyer , @Larry_Greenbaum . It is good to see how you all like this image.!
I do mountains only when on holiday. So it’s nice to learn that I am succeeded a bit. Back to my flat holland. Thank you all !
Classic mountain composition with the V shaped foreground. The human element imparts a sense of place and the lighting is fantastic. Hope you don’t mind, but the large FG cloud at the bottom of the mountain appears a little clipped on my monitor so I tried to add a little detail, and probably messed up the rest of the image. Apologies.
That is an interesting and rugged peak. I like how the cabins convey the scale of the scene and shows the dominance that I think you are trying to convey. The fog enhances the mood of the scene.
