Description
Driving around and then walking… I saw this bike engulfed with leaves … No one riding it anymore !!! We all probably have had a bike to end up like this… Our childhood , the bike we loved so much, probably got it for Christmas or a Birthday , Gone and forgotten. But this one remained… I left the background as natural as possible showing the house…
Specific Feedback
My Tone. Does my image carry the best tone to make everything Pop. I kept the house in the frame. Gives the bike a place.

There is so much to explore in this image, Gill. Initially, I’m just drawn to the contrast between the white bike and dark ivy, and I notice the house in the background. Then the light and dark in the ivy itself interests me. And then, what’s that, a fake dog in the rear basket?
This is interesting as an image about a familiar shape and lovely tonality, but it also tells a story (unsolvable mystery, perhaps). Nicely done.

Thanks so much. It’s great to find something we all can really relate to. My miss my bike 10 years old. I think we all do.
Like Marylynne has mentioned, there is so much to explore in this image. And, that’s a big plus for me.
The bike is very stark, and I immediately think “ghost bike”. I’m not sure if you have them over the ditch. Here, white bikes placed on the side of the road symbolise a tragic accident involving a bike and more than likely a motor vehicle.
I love the house in the background and I would be very tempted to include more of it. The dog in the back carrier is the icing on the cake.
The tone you have chosen, certianly makes the bike “pop”, but could the “pop” be calmed a little?
Thanks for your comment. I know bikes are sometimes placed on the side of a road as a memorial. Not sure they are always White. This bike was light orange and when I put it in B&W it went lighter than the leaves. So I decided to make it a little brighter and give some contrast to the leaves. I may try to tone it down some and see what happens…Thanks again !!!
Gill: What a great find and a compelling image; derelict bike, derelict house, derelict ivy. What a combination and your processing this in B&W gives it much more impact than if it was in color. Well seen and presented.>=))>
Wonderful!!! The tonalities work for me! An abandoned ghost. And the subdued tonalities of the house are just right. You wonder if it is abandoned, too. Great find and great presentation!! Only suggestion is just a tad more room around it, especially on the right. But that’s a very minor nit for a wonderful image!
Thanks everyone for your great comments. I got lucky finding this bike. We were all kids with bikes and they are now lost and gone. This bike is still here long forgotten and Un loved. But I love the bike and my image. Peace to us all.
A great find, Gil. I do like the angle you chose to get the house in the background and the little hint of yard and roof have a rather unkempt look that goes with the overgrown bike. To my eye, the white is a bit bright, but I’ve never been all that fond of high contrast and I know I’m a bit of an exception to the rule there.
Thanks. I tried to make the bike pop some. I may re-edit and improve it. Thanks again.
