Frostbit 1

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Well our hard freeze is over and today we surveyed the damage in the garden as we removed the plant covers. It was actually a bit better than I expected primarily due to the heroic efforts of my master gardener wife. This is one of our succulents that has provided many fine opportunities this year. Chrissy planted it in the ground this spring so we couldn’t bring it in the garage like the barrel cactus in the BG. I’m curious as to how or if it will recover once we get some sun and rain. I hope this isn’t its last image of the season but time will tell.

Specific Feedback

Had a little breeze to contend with but was still able to pull off the stack. Would have preferred to use f5.6 or f4 for the individual shots to soften the BG a bit more but felt I should limit the number of shots. My camera does not auto-stack so I have to compose each frame separately and try to evaluate the wind movement. Too much definition in the cactus BG??

The cactus bg probably isn’t ideal, Bill, but I was so busy looking at the details of the frost damage that I didn’t pay any attention to the background until I read your note on it. It’s always hard to guess what frost will do. Hopefully it will recover well.

The poor hydra looks so sad and forlorn! Bit, for sure…
The BG is pretty distracting from here.
Sure hope it recovers and provides you more marvelous images to share!
