This certainly doesn’t compare with Mark Seaver’s ice shots, but the other day I noticed that my neighbor had emptied his water bucket he had in his dog pen, and it had melted except for the sides and the bottom on the ground. So it made for a nice try at ice. I like the shapes and bubbles, as well as the pretty tan colors of the dead grass coming through.

Anything. I was just enjoying getting out and shooting a little.

Fun icescapes, Shirley! I’m with you, sometimes it is just enough to be able to get out a “shoot a little.” The photos even look like they are having a great time. Love the detail and energy you’ve gotten. Looking forward to more “fun photos” from you this next year!
The first one reminded me of closeup of the King’s or the Queen’s Crown.
The second one reminded me of shot up stained glass window from the OK Coral (captured with a sepia toned photo)
Yeah, quite an imagination huh?
Seriously though, I really like them both and the earth tones really are very nice…and refreshing.
The details are very good and I like how the edges are smooth from the slow melt.
Hi Shirley, glad you are having fun with photography. That’s what it’s all about! You captured some awesome ice details. It might be interesting to see how these look with a bit of cooler toning to them. Both images remind of me glass sculptures. Nice work!
Lovely ice sculptures, Shirley. I love both of them. The BG complements both of them. Our snow has melted here and the ice is dirty. I’ve had a hard time finding shots lately that are keepers. Glad you got a couple.
Shirley, you’ve got loads of detail and interesting shapes in both of these. The nice tan background color add to their attractiveness. The thin , clear edges in both of these might give you some birefringence if you use your polarizer. In the first post, I like the feeling of reaching that the diagonal creates.
Thank you, @linda_mellor, @Merv, @Alfredo_Mora, @Donna_Callais and @Mark_Seaver for viewing and your kind and helpful comments. I really appreciate it. I don’t get to shoot much anymore, so this opportunity was a treat. Mark, I never even thought of a polarizing filter! No more frequent than I get to shoot ice, I hope I can remember that if there is a next time. Much appreciate it.
Trying to catch up here, but have to add to the comments how much I like these! Ice from a dog’s bowl? Who would have known… Wonderful seeing and lovely images captured! Simply gorgeous!!
Thank you, Diane. I appreciate your kind words and best wishes. It was actually ice dumped out of a 5 gallon bucket my neighbor uses for his dogs drinking water. A day or so went by before I walked over to see what it was, and then ran for the camera. So much of it had already melted, I’m sure. Still, some of the sides which had thinned down I’m sure had neat shapes to it and made a nice subject. It was fun. While I was at it I tried to photograph some of the “dead flowers” in my garden. I will try to get around to processing some of them. I tried my hand at ICM.
