Ghostly Grand

Image Description

In late October 2012 I attended medical conference in Phoenix and stayed with one of our sons who lives in Scottsdale. After the conference we took a short trip up to the Grand Canyon. He only stayed one night but I stuck around for a few more days, eventually ending up on the North Rim the last couple of days it was open. There was a fire crew on the North Rim working a controlled burn. At night the smoke would settle into the canyon. This was taken from the South Rim with a full moon illuminating the land forms. I basically had the place to myself and when I did cross over to the North Rim I was one of two tents in the campground the first night and the lone camper the last. Kind of spooky but a wonderful experience. >=))>

Compared to what can be done with astro photography now this is probably pretty rudimentary but I thought the conditions were worth an entry.

Bill, this is a fine look at the Grand Canyon, with the smoke partially obscuring the towers and a good collection of stars. The full moon does make a decent light source at night in a dark land.

Being able to add the tag manually may be a good clue for finding the problem.

This image screams climate change catastrophe to me, Wonderful capture - the stars, unfettered even in smoke. contrast well with the smoke in the canyon communicating that nature is at stake.

This is such a great image Bill! The small version on the page does not do the image any favours at all. When I enlarged it, it blew me away.

The colours are stunning and I love seeing all those stars. It must have been exhilerating to be there.

Nothing quite like being the lone camper!
