Glass Frog

Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

Another image that took great patience, which is usually in short supply with me. We found this 1-inch Glass Frog off a trail in Costa Rica, just after a light, brief rain. I saw a couple drips off the tip of the leaf and quickly set up my tripod, but kept my long lens on to avoid spooking the frog. Sat on a stump for almost an hour before I got the drip I was hoping for, after missing several. I didn’t see the tiny water drop on the frog’s knee until I opened this on the big computer.

Patience paid off here, Sandy. A beautiful image with no nits from me.

This is absolutely awesome Sandy. I like the water drop at the end of the leaf, and thought, OK, nice flora scene here, until I looked closer. That frog is tiny. That leaf is huge, This image is great. Cool shot.

A really great shot Sandy, I love the black background and the framing, it has immediate impact, and the water drop was worth the wait.

Hi Sandy,

Very nice and I’m assuming that the lighting was provided with diffused flash. I have no nits for you and like this one as presented. Glass frogs are tiny and the image shows the relative size between frog and perch. Glass frogs are nocturnal and the black BG is perfect for this type of shot. Awesome…Jim

Wow, Sandy, what a find and capture. That water drop on his foot is icing on the cake. The leaf gives us a nice idea of how tiny he is. Well done!

@Jim_Zablotny
Jim - no flash here, but the Guide kindly opened his headlight to the widest display and put a bit of light on the frog. It was still quite dark, so I lightened it up a lot.

Really cool shot Sandy. I like the size perspective displayed here and the water drops add another element of interest. Nice frame.

What a nice photo and beautiful tiny animal Sandy, a drop among the drops but animated. It is wandering: " What is this big animal!". Bravo.

Just an amazing image Sandy. That drop of water falling off the tip of the leaf, along with the other droplets clinging to the frog and the stem, make this one stand out. Great work and patience.

Thank you @Ed_Williams @Ted_Forman @Allen_Sparks @@Shirley_Freeman @Dennis_Plank @Ryan_H @Giuseppe_Guadagno for the thoughtful words and encouraging comments.
and Thank you @Bill_Fach for the EP! One of my very favorite images.
If nature photography hasn’t taught me a small amount of patience, nothing will…

Your guide did an excellent job getting you the light needed for this shot. One of my faves that involves tiny frog photography…Jim
