The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
In a garden grove of Camellia trees I found this flower lit up by the sun. I wanted to emphasize the light showing through the petals, playing with all shades of red. I was pleased with the blurred background .
Specific Feedback
I am wondering if I should remove the partial leaf in the lower left. If so, PS remove tool?
Does the blurred flower at the top take away from the composition?
Light glare on flower’s left leaf…any way to improve?
Thanks for any comments!

Lovely! For me, camellias are not easy to photograph well but you did it here. The new Remove tool would probably work well here – or Generative Fill, which can be amazing. I don’t mind the glare on the leaf and that sort of thing is difficult to remove. I’d try selecting the leaf and using the Camera Raw filter and pulling down the Highlights and maybe play with colors. I’d clone out the bright area right on the bottom border.
I wonder about reducing attention on the flower at the top – maybe darker and less saturated? But overall a very pleasant capture, amenable to some tweaking.
Thanks, Diane. Your suggestions are really helpful!
I tried to cut and paste the camera details from the photo’s metadata following your instructions (last January!). All worked until the last step. I had the screenprint on the desktop and tried to add to the Details bos. Clicking on the icon with the arrow to paste it into the Technical Details field did not work. I must be missing one small step.
Ann Louise, I like this image a lot. The light through the petals of the camellia is great and I like the light on the left leaf, so I wouldn’t mess with that. I do think the partial leaf peaking into the frame from the left should go. I’ve had mixed results with the remove tool-sometimes it works great other times it seems to pick up lines or colors that I don’t want. I’m more inclined to either use the clone tool or pick up some colors from elsewhere in the image and just paint over the offending object.
Beautiful image with the lightshining through the camellia petals. I’d vote for removing that left half-leaf, then moving the main flower bit to the right. The lowest half-leaf on the right could go too, if you chose.
Fine image…
@Dennis_Plank , @SandyR-B , @Diane_Miller : I have incorporated most of your comments. Diane, selecting the leaf and reducing the highlights really made a difference on that leaf! I also removed the stem and leaves on the left. I then touched up the background with the remove tool and clone tool. Thanks for all of your suggestions and “how to” advice. I plan to print this one.
This is a beautiful look at this colorful camelia Anne Louise. I really like what you did with the edits. Nice work.
Not sure if you know that you can actually post the edited version with the original version by using the pencil icon under your original post and then pasting the image at the very beginning of the original post’s text. That way they can be seen side by side to facilitate comparison. Sorry if you already knew this.
