Golden-crowned Sparrows

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

A fairly common wintering bird in Oregon; should be taking off for the north in a couple of weeks.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated. In the first one there’s lack of detail in the belly-there was probably a leaf between the camera and bird, as there was a green cast on the belly I removed in LR.

Technical Details

Canon R5; 100-500 at 500 mm; 1/320 at f8; ISO 400 and 700 mm, 1/1640 at f10, -1 2/3 EV, ISO 2000

Nice photos. I’m more partial to the second. I like seeing the wings and more of the bird. I also like the creamy bokeh in the background.

HI Allen, both nice looks of this little guy. Nice detail where it matters. Good catches in their environment. I’m wondering about darkening the first one and lightening the second. Nice images either way.

Amazingly different looking birds in the different habitat and light, Allen. I think I prefer the second here. The spring green in the first just seems to be a bit much and tends to overpower the bird despite it’s size in the frame.
