Goldfinch with Batchelor Buttons

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I took this image last week of a goldfinch eating the seeds of batchelor buttons in our backyard garden. It was quite windy and a lot of movement within the flower stems. The interaction of the local birds and the flower garden provides unlimited joy in seeing God’s creations. There are moments when I can mesmerized by the scene rather than focusing on taking an image.

Specific Feedback

I am looking for initial impressions and an overall critique of the image and composition.

Technical Details

Image taken with a Canon 80D, with Tamron 100-400 mm lens, at 400 mm, f6.3, 1/1250 sec, at 1600 ISO (or ASA)

Ian, this is a fun view with the bird and flowers well placed. The Goldfinch is just a bit soft and a bit more depth-of-field would be nice, but very hard to get with a long lens. Seeing something like this up close is always rare and delightful.
