Grasshopper in the Desert

Image Description

I’ve seen so many beautiful mushrooms for this week’s challenge. I thought I’d throw something a little different into the mix. This little critter is Acrida conica (Peaked Tooth Grasshopper) I think. Fallen trees in the desert provide food and shelter for insects, reptiles, birds and mammals. I think this little bloke would be happier sitting on a stalk of grass than a burnt log.

This is great Glennie, What a curious looking creature, I feel like I am looking at a “Disney-bug” that is going to start talking to me!
The framing works really well, the focus is pin-sharp, the colours create a wonderful dry desert pallet, and oh, look what’s in the background

His name should be Acrida comica - he’s certainly upstaging his more illustrious backdrop. A great pose and he’s so sharp. My only suggestion would be to brighten the dark section of log to make it more separated from the BG on the right. Quite a sighting this was!

Glennie, it looks like aliens have landed in Aussieland. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: The hopper blends in very will with both it’s perch and the background. The oof background adds a fine sense of place without detracting from the hopper.

What a cool looking grasshopper, Glennie. I love that face. Normally, I’d go for a tighter crop, but I don’t think it’s legal to mess with that rock in the background.
