Green Heron reflecting

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Saw this green heron at the state park pond this past Friday.

An unlikely pair of Eastern Meadowlark and Belted Kingfisher posed briefly on a branch over the pond which is shown in the second image.

Thats one productive park, Allen. I certainly wouldn’t expect to see a meadowlark and kingfisher perched next to one another. Excellent images and that pair wins for oddity.

Really like the heron shot. Great pose and detail with a nice perch. Has a high key feel, but with a more interesting background color. Good reflection as well. Cool to get the meadowlark and kingfisher on the same branch and in the same plane of focus. Nice look at both.

Hi Allen
Green Heron reflection or sometimes everything comes to a point, (couldn’t help my self). Very nice framing is well balance with good sharpness. Frame 2, it looks like the Meadowlark is happy having a Kingfisher share is branch. Both birds have great color and detail.

Amazing!! The Heron looks like he might be spooked by his own reflection! And the pair – holy cow!! What amazing DOF! Did you do a focus stack? As gorgeous as it is improbable – contest-worthy!

Hi Diane, thanks…no focus stack. Just lucky. Was focused on the meadowlark and then a kingfisher showed up in the viewfinder too. :slightly_smiling_face:

That is quite a combination of the kingfisher and meadowlark posing perfectly for you on that branch. Love the heron reflection as well. Great captures!

Man, what a catch that day Allen! Reflection is beautiful and I would have been happy finding that kingfisher standing still for a change. They certainly qualify as the “Odd Couple” then!

Lover the heron and reflection - tack sharp and perfect color and BG. There is a bit of fuzz on the edge of his head - artifact or errant feather?
The kingfisher and meadowlark is an ecceptional catch, and processed perfectly

Hi Sandy, errant feather. This indicates to me that this is likely a juvenile bird which have such feathers on top of their head.
