Green heron skirmish

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Visited the state park pond again this morning. These two green herons got into a bit of a territorial dispute with the one on the left driving off the one on the right.

Specific Feedback

In the first four images, I left the aspect ratio the same for the sake of the series. I narrowed it down in the last shot for composition.
I think I was lucky these two were relatively in the same focal plane.
These shots are in order of capture. I believe the second shot is my favorite.
Any comments appreciated.

Very cool, and technically excellent!! I love them all but the third makes me smile for the awkward pose. I’m glad we get to see the aftermath – it almost looks like the tables are about to turn. You are killing us with these guys – hope you have them on retainer. I find myself looking forward to each day’s offering.

It’s super. The series works like a flip book story.
Fantastic from beginning to end.
This is the most action I have seen from Green Herons.

Very cool behavioral series, Allen. Excellent images as well. If there’s someone out there studying aggression/submission in this species, they’d love to have this series for the scientific value. My favorite is probably the third frame, but the fourth shows some subtle posturing on the part of the right hand bird that I find intriguing.

Excellent work.

Great series. The herons stand out nicely from the background and the detail and color looks great. They really tell a story and I like the second one for the abrupt change in attitude and the last one with the loser departing.

Excellent series and all perfectly-processed.
I also love the third one for the awkward pose

Great series Allen, and great individual images too. I like the uniform way you managed this series. I do especially like the second and third images for the tightrope walking involved.

Dear Allen,

You and your superb photos are causing me to commit the sin of Envy. As it is one of the 7-deadlies, I plead that you cease your temptation for me to leave the path of righteousness into this sinful state. Not to mention, green is not a good look for me.

Love,

Kris

:joy: hi Kris! Thanks and sorry I guess. I’ve really been enjoying all the action at the state park pond. Usually good things going on if you can wait for it. I went this morning though and it was slow photo wise. The birds were there but just didn’t do much for photo ops. The kingfishers are more interested in chasing each other than fishing.
I always enjoy seeing your work too and thanks for all the comments and interest you’ve shown.
