I was testing my newly acquired Canon 800mm F-11 lens. I did not do noise reduction or extra sharpening. Considering the limitations of this lens, how acceptable is the image quality .

Hi John. At the scale of the smaller image, it looks impressive. However, I couldn’t load the larger image. The message said “image could not be loaded” you may have exceeded the allowable file size?
or it could be my lousy internet connection-though I don’t usually get that message? I hadn’t heard of that lens. I’m guessing it’s a mirror lens?
Not a mirror lens, these 2 Canon lenses just came out. I decided on the 800 over the 600 as I currently have the Sigma 150-600C. So far I have been very pleased with this lens as it is very light compared to the big Sigma. I need to check up on image size.
Hello John, nice species to have in front of your (new) lens. The thicker branch going ‘through’ the bill is a little dealbreaker for me personally, but judging from the angle you took the shot, was probably unavoidable. Have fun with your new gear ! cheers, Hans
It looks pretty good in the smaller version, John. It’s interesting that you said you did not use noise reduction because the larger version seems to be fairly soft and blurred where the feather details would be very fine and I don’t see hardly any granular noise in the large image which is surprising for ISO-2000. If you didn’t apply noise reduction it sure seems that the camera did it for you. Were you shooting in jpeg mode using any of the enhancement features that the Canon RP has?
