Green Heron

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Green Heron posing in late afternoon sun. Had quite a bit of shadow. How much to remove was what bothered me. I wanted the detail but, wanted to keep the back light feeling.

This sure looks like a pugnacious bird, Charlie. The details in the bird’s feathers show very clearly…a bit too well for backlighting. I wonder about somewhat less shadow reduction, to retain the details while fitting with the rest of the lighting a bit better.

I tried darkening and detail was lost. Just didn’t look right. Thanks for you input.
