Grey Wagtail

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Another submission to the Avian Misnomer subcategory . Why not something like “Saffron-rumped Wagtail”? I couldn’t get lower as I was on a bridge over the stream, but the reflection shows how vibrant this bird is underneath.

Specific Feedback

I muted some of the glare from the sunlight, but maybe the surroundings need more of this.

Technical Details

D500 + 150-600mm (@600mm) 1/640 f11 ISO 1250

LR: applied Blacks and Whites and lowered some highlights with the adjustment brush. Denoise. Shadows and Highlights in PS and cropping for composition.

Mike, this is a nice look of this fellow. I like the contrasting red leaves.

Hi Mike, this is a really interesting bird with that long tail and colorful rump. I like the inclusion of the reflection and being able to see into the water. Nice details on the bird. Nicely composed image.

Nice shot Mike, even from above. I really like the reflection on the water, especially the eye. I also like the contrasting brown leaves , nice composition.
THANKS

Hi Mike. A really cool bird and the reflection makes up a lot for the angle. I really like the way the surface tension around the leaf creates that scalloped look in the reflection. I did notice that this could use some counter-clockwise (British anti-clockwise) rotation as the eye and its reflection don’t line up. I took the liberty of downloading it and doing so and I think it gives the bird a perkier look as well.

I used some content-aware fill on the corners.

Very nice look at this bird and the reflection is interesting, showing the underside so well. I like the inclusion of the leaves as well.

@SkipsPics @Sandy_Richards-Brown @Allen_Sparks @Allen_Brooks @Dennis_Plank - many thanks for commenting. Dennis, you have perked it up, definitely. An interesting effect of rotation.
