Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Our mild winter came to a crashing halt yesterday (18 degrees outside now). Chrissy and I spent Saturday and Sunday covering the plants. This little beauty had just bloomed so we cut it and brought it inside. I took it into my bathroom “studio” and played around with some high key captures and DOF variations. The first was taken at f16 while the second at f2.8. All comments welcome. >=))>

Both are very nice, Bill. The one at f/2.8, took me a few seconds to adjust to because the high key presentation doesn’t make me focus immediately on the center stalk and that made the out of focus pink in the background dominate too much, but as soon as my eye locked on to the pistil and stamens, everything fell into place and it looked great.

Very fun! I love the subtle colors and shapes!!

Could be still more fun to take the sharper one and do some selective blurring – now that fresh subjects may be scarce for a while.
