How would you Process my Sea Stack at Bandon Beach, Oregon?

Here’s my version. Halo and all.

Alright, here goes, I had a lot of fun with this and I was also so impressed with the quality of the files coming out of the Fuji. You can do so much to them and they don’t fall apart.

  1. I decreased brightness and increased the contrast in the sky.
  2. Then I tried TK’s Make-It-Glow action to give the colours a bit of pop.
  3. Then into Nik Viveza for some localized clarity - they call it “structure”.
  4. Next I desaturated the blues quite a bit.
  5. Next a couple of layers for Dodging the great looking water.
  6. Added a vignette. No image would be complete without one.
  7. Curves to boost the global contrast.
  8. A couple more burn/dodge layers. This time to sculpt the light on the sea stack.
  9. And finally a levels adjustment to darken down the sky.

Very cool everyone!

Is there a way to get these into a viewer so we can flip from one to another?

Tom, this is pretty impressive. I like the warmer tones and a feeling of the sun coming up.

I went between two other B&W adaptations, using a variety methods…

I started off working strictly in color working the blues to a rich darkness and worked the oranges in the rock to brighten and a deeper but brighter luminosity before going to several different layers of SEP3. I liked the more dark and moody coloration.

Nice processing, Chris. I like what you did. Great looking and moody too. Thanks for playing.

Hi David!

It’s great to see how this is working out and the images submitted so far are awesome pieces to share for processing!

I’m not going to choose which one is my favorite because it’s too hard to choose.

Looking at this one from a slightly abstract point of view (at least the rock formation portion of it), the formation looks very much like a Marlin, Swordfish or Sailfish popping up out of the deep blue.
We used to refer to the three in general terms as Billfish. I’ve been on a few of those deep sea fishing trips and your stack looks very similar (but with a broken off bill that is).

Wonderful idea and it looks like everyone is having fun with it

I wont try, I’m not even up to the level of an amateur at B&W processing, anything I do would be an insult to you and your image.

Great work, everyone!
