About This Image
During peak hibiscus season I try to make a quick pass through the garden every morning just to see if anything interesting is going on. One day I spotted this grasshopper perched on the top of a newly opened bloom and got a few shots of him munching away. I was pretty happy with the results and called it a day. The next morning he was still on the same flower but the glutinous little bugger had eaten it all! Oh well, the flowers only last a day anyway . >=))>

The last image is day one and I know it’s bright and even though the yellows weren’t blown I did tone them down some. Also, is the grasshopper evident enough?

Oh! What a cheeky little critter. I love the profile portrait of him. Zoomed in he is amazing. Well done!
The yellow flower is very pretty and I like the cheeky grasshopper sizing it up. He is quite evident to me and being a little “small in frame” adds a lot.
I love the full-length portrait (and just wish I knew how to bring it up on the left while writing this, rather than the first image). The BG is very unobtrusive and contrasting, and I love grasshoppers for their armor-plated details, which you captured so well. No, 2 - spot on for me, Bill.
Bill, they are all good, but I like the first image best of all. The lighting on him is best I think and of course being close up we get more details in his armor as well as what’s left of his lunch. Nice details.
The first image is really striking, and the details are fantastic. I also like the full-body image a lot, but the close-up is more impactful, I think. I personally prefer seeing all the wonderful little details. It’s harder to see and appreciate the details of the grasshopper in the last image, but if the story you want to tell is that grasshoppers are devouring your beautiful flowers, then it’s right on.
Bill, I really like #1 and how you’ve got the antennae nearly touching the frame. The details in #1 are amazing, with the eye having so many different tones. The beast looks proud of itself.
Eat your hearts out David and Marian Fairchild! All three images are gorgeous, Bill. I’m particularly fond of the portrait, but the full length view is awesome as well. The one showing the grasshopper on the whole flower is a very good illustrative image and helps a lot to put the others in context.
