ID please?

Taken in the open space above my home. Question: what is this flower? I went through my flower ID for Colorado page and came up with nothing. I’m assuming the bee is a bumblebee (?)

Looks like Blanket Flower, aka Brown-eyed Susan, aka Gaillardia aristata. A gorgeous wildflower and one that has been adopted by the horticultural industry who have created numerous cultivars.

Excellent image, Kathy.

I agree with Dennis; Great Blanket Flower. Gaillardia is the State Flower of Oklahoma.

Pretty photo.

Thank you. For some reason , one of this color did not turn up in my search.
Kathy

Odd. It’s pretty much the standard color of the natives out here. However, the Google searches tend to turn up what the nurseries sell.

What striking colors in this blanket flower and having the bee included adds to the interest. The flower on the left interrupts the flow of the composition for me. Therefore, I might crop to a vertical format if it were mine. Personal preference only.

I totally agree re the vertical format! I prepared this for a charity calendar . It has to be 8 by 10 horizontal and it has to be from 3 specific counties . My selection is limited! I would get out and shoot more but just haven’t been able to go back out for a variety of reasons.

Good job getting the bee and flower sharp. I like the background in that it conveys a feeling of being in a meadow of wildflowers.

Kathy, this will make a fine calendar page. The sharpness of the bee and flower look great and the background does a good job of putting the viewer in this fine wildflower meadow on a sunny day.

Love this one! Gorgeous colors, sharp flower and the bee. I am ok with the background as it gives the perspective of the habitat.

Kathy: Great looking subject and a good calendar image. I do agree with Pat regarding the partial OOF flower on the left edge so I think the image would be stronger in portrait orientation as a stand alone presentation. Our blanket flowers are almost a complete reversal of what you have here with yellow center and red petals. Nice find and a great capture.>=))>

What wonderful color and detail, and with a matching bee! The subject is so strong that the flower on the left is not a problem for me, perhaps because it echoes the one behind the flower, which is such a nice touch. When you crop as you wish, it will be even more striking.
