Description
I don’t photograph birds. But yesterday the sardineros were bringing in their catch and there were millions of gulls, and the light was good. I worked on several different ideas but the outcome was determined by chance. I just found the body contortion of this gull to be artistic. No ballerina could match this bird.

Amazing shot for a phone at bird, Igor. The crop shows, but it gives it a bit of a painterly feel that appeals to me. The pose is wonderful and you even had some nice cloud mottling in the sky. The only think I might change is to work on the edges of the darker area of the wing on our left where there’s a bit of a fringe, though viewed at a respectable distance it doesn’t really show. Excellent image.
Hi Igor, really nice pose you caught - great to do it with an iPhone! Love the partially cloudy sky too. IQ isn’t grand but I don’t think that matters too much for this one. A fun shot!
Incredible that this was shot with a phone. And then cropped significantly. But I have to say that the pixelation gives this a very painterly feel that I enjoy. The blue that you rendered is stunning. So are the clouds. Looks like someone painted this with cotton balls by dappling them on the canvas. I very much enjoy viewing this small and as would be expected, it sort of falls apart if you pixel peep but that’s not what this is about. I think the bird works well being centered but normally I would add a little canvas on the side that the bird is looking into so for this shot I would add some canvas to the left side of the image but it really doesn’t feel needed with this shot. Is there too much sky? Absolutely not. It’s the sky that makes this picture for me. Stunning color of blue and those clouds are just dreamy. Ballerina dreams!
A different, dramatic shot. The pose of the gull coming at the viewer makes for a rather unique gull image. Not too much sky; the sky adds a lot to the image. Great shot and with a phone!
