The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I returned earlier this week from a two week family trip to Scotland. I was able to get out and photograph this morning at the neighborhood lake as I’m finally getting over jet lag.
I staked out a spot for a kingfisher perch and also saw a great blue heron banking to land.
Specific Feedback
I like the head on pose in the first image and how the bird shows a bit of his tongue.
What may seem like noise in the lower left of the kingfisher shot is remnants of a spider web.
Any comments appreciated.

Great sharpness for that head-on shot. It looks like remnants of the spider itself on the bird’s bill in the second shot (possibly molt). A fine heron shot too. No 2 is my preferred shot, with an excellent pose. Any bird shots from Scotland, Allen?
Oh boy those are great. I especially like the face-on kingfisher - it’s so different and fun, quite engaging in a way that the side pose isn’t although it is aesthetically pleasing, too. I’ve only seen them dashing around this year, didn’t get anywhere close to them as they’re not aclimated to humans much where I am. Herons can be calm though I haven’t gotten a shot of them either. Just not enough time on the water since I traveled a lot this summer. Glad you got out there to enjoy though. And…Scotland? Looking forward to whatever you got from there. When we went to Norway last year, it was a choice between there and Scotland.
All are wonderful but for me, the second one is special – just such a nice pose and perfect detail. The BGs for the Kingfishers are wonderful! And I love the turbulence on the Heron’s feathers. It really shows how the smooth airstream that gives lift breaks up prior to landing.
The first one is just plain fun with that head on pose and open beak, Allen. I also like the other two images and the second is a nice classic pose with superb detail. the bit of feather on the beak makes it special. Just family in Scotland? No photography? Scotland has always been a Mecca for British bird photographers.
Yes, mainly just a family trip to Scotland. No birds. I did take a few landscapes that might should go in the Everything Else forum. Fun trip but glad to be back home.
Oh Allen, I am jealous. For the last two weeks I have been trying to get a picture of our local kingfishers but they are either too far away, or just fly away when I finally get in position. I love the second picture. It’s the picture on my bucket list. I also love the first picture. This spring it was my goal to get pictures of birds looking straight at me. It is fun and different. Great moments !
