Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
For years I’ve passed these cattails on my daily walk and thought they’d make a nice perch. Finally, a bird was kind enough to pose for me on one. There were a number of distracting twigs and branches in the background and I removed them, though the results are different in the two images.
Specific Feedback
Any thoughts appreciated.

Oh, I really like these shots (2nd one is my favorite because you captured him with his mouth full). Excellent details in the birds and a wonderful perch.

Very well done, Allen. I like both images with a slight leaning for the action in the second.

Wonderful!! I could see a tiny bit of highlight taming in the second, but that’s a small point. Lovely colors, detail and setting!

Hi Allen,
Really nice! I’m finding, as I peruse Avian occasionally, and am not a bird photographer myself, that I love the little details. So much is made of the catch-lights and the texture of features, and yes, that is all so important. But to me, in this one, it’s the feet. Yes, the lowly feet. There is something about the grasping on the stems that gives them additional personality. And also their disregard, to some extent of the photographer. This guys just doing his thing.
Really nice pair of images,
ML

Excellent work, Allen. I like both images excellent detail and plumage color. The second image is a lot of fun. I see cat tails frequently and they do make attractive and an interesting subject matter for birds.

Second one has a captivating behavior and is my favorite of the two. My only suggestion for improving the comp is to to dro down the strength of the highlights at the top of the cattails. Otherwise, an excellent image…Jim
