Lilian’s Lovebirds

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I always feel like lovebirds are torturing me in Africa! They fly close only to fly off before you can press the shutter! Finally got lucky though.

Specific Feedback

Any feedback. I tend to have a moody trend to my photography. Do you like the composition? Softness? Hate it? Love it? Thanks!

Technical Details

Nikon Z9, Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VRS

How wonderful to see these little birds in the wild. It would have been a real treat.

Love the image. There is a soft and gentle mood with a pop of vibrant. The untidy branch makes for a great base and the diagonal branch completes the stage. The dead leaf on the right makes the magic number three. The birds fall right on the ROT.

The background is so unobtrusive in its subtleness. Gentle greens into greys.

I only have one suggestion, not a critiscism. Maybe a very slight twig removal in front of the top bird. Not the whole thing but that tiny wee one just below his beak.

Beautiful birds Christine, they stand out so well from the muted pallet of the background.
I would try a slightly closer crop and I agree with Glennie about the twig, it will give that bird a little more separation from the branches…actually I might do a bit more

Thank you @Glenys_Passier and @Ryan_H . Appreciate the thoughtful comments! Twig be gone! Haha!

Beautiful birds, Christine, color and detail look excellent and I like they are facing each other. The background lets the birds stand out. The branches show the environment well, though I’d be tempted to crop tighter, perhaps removing the large branch in the LLC. Agree with removing the twig(s) around the upper bird.

Hi Christine. The two birds work very well in this image, though I do agree with a tighter crop. I understand leaving the large limb in to provide context for all the other branches, but I think people’s imaginations can provide that. I took the liberty of downloading your image and recropping it as an example of what I’m thinking. I also added a touch of light to the left bird’s face and body as the difference in exposure of the two gave all the attention to the brighter one. I didn’t bother removing twigs. You might also move your logo to a corner and subdue it a bit as it is actually becoming part of the composition as it is.

A beautiful image.

Lovely image Christine with a great view of the birds’ eyes. Pleasing colors and backdrop. I like Dennis’ rework and I could see a version taking out the branches near the top bird. Well seen and taken.
