Little Miss Pollen Beak

This female Black Chinned Hummingbird has clearly been feeding on plants with a lot of pollen including this red yucca plant. Fun to see them doing well.

My usual 4 flash setup with 3 flashes on the hummer and one for the background.

Still working on my article on photographing these little marvels. I’m getting closer!

Wow! I love this, Keith! I’ve never seen a hummingbird with pollen on their beak. But it makes sense it would get on them just like a bee. Beautiful moment you captured! Look forward to your article!

Absolutely awesome capture, Keith. Wow.

Very well balanced comp with excellent color, detail and barely noticeable wing blur. The scant blur makes it look very natural.

Gorgeous lighting and composition with wonderful detail on the hummer! I’ve captured some with a few grains on their beaks but this one takes the prize!

Another killer Hummingbird photo, Keith! You are certainly the expert with flash photography! The pollen covering it’s beak is a big bonus for this one. Well done! :+1:

Another great hummingbird image, Keith. I love the pollen.

Hi Keith, amazing flash work - so natural looking. Love the composition and the reddish colors working with the green. The pollen on the beak is icing on the cake. Terrific!

How cool is that? Love the title, Keith. I’ve never seen that much pollen on a hummer. Such a unique image. Love the background and the flower but I really like the position of the bird. Can’t think of anything to improve this. Super shot.

Hi Keith - I am definitely looking forward to your article on photographing hummingbirds. I have a big pollinator garden with a lot of hummingbird visitors but have no idea where to start in photographing them. For this photo itself, I think everything works well in terms of the bird’s interaction with the plant, the placement in the frame, etc. The only thing I’ll note is that I think the photo looks a little dark overall so you could consider brightening it. This is likely just a personal preference of mine but I still wanted to mention it. Otherwise, this looks wonderful!
