Exploring logging field.

composition and processing. Not sure if I have this too dark but wanted to highlight the tree topping shapes and the upright tree.

Interesting message in this image. I think the dark processing definitely conveys the somber tone of a logged piece of land.
As for the composition, I’m thinking reframing to have the standing trunk farther away from the left edge would be good. Not sure if that would’ve introduced something at the edge you were trying to avoid—I see a couple of small branches sticking in from the left so maybe that was the case. Moving the tree over would cut down on the large empty space at the URC which at first glance seems to occupy more space than I’d think it needs to. I’ll be interested to see what others say about that aspect.
Well this certainly does express the devastation of logging. I do have some thoughts on the comp. a radical comp such as this may just be appropriate for such a subject. Why have a balanced comp of something that’s inherently broken? It’s something to think about. I can see it being good either way. You could crop off some of the right and make a tall vertical I suppose. The high contrast helps convey the message imo.
Thank you @Igor_Doncov and @Adam_Bolyard . Yes my idea was to leave the negative space to, without getting to metaphorical, reflect the emptiness of the land post logging. I have removes the small branches on the left.

The dark processing works for me. Once I saw this image large, it became apparent that the negative space really helps to tell the story about the logging field. To me the fallen tree is a very powerful part of that story as well, I’m glad that you got this close to it and made it such a prominent part of the composition. My only suggestion is that when viewed large there is some type of banding in the sky, probably due to strong contrast adjustments in post. Blurring the sky might help with that, or try re-processing the sky in an attempt to reduce teh banding.
