Low Tide

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Although barnacles may not be thought of as delicate, they are, like all creatures that live in the intertidal, vulnerable at low tide. This is what I saw when I crawled along the rocks at the beach today. Mussels, snails, barnacles, seaweeds, all exposed to the dry air, waiting for the tide to come back in. I wanted to get as close as I could.

Specific Feedback

I would appreciate comments on the composition and my choice of depth of field.

Elizabeth: I do like your comp and I’m a fan of shallow DOF images. This would work better for me if the point of focus was the center barnacle instead of the one on the right or the dark one right below. That white ring enclosing the center crack in the middle barnacle grabs the eye and the little bit of softness got my attention. One other unrelated point is that you have a lot of dust spots that are showing up even at your open aperture. If you’re using LR or PS the dust removal filters work really well. >=))>
