One of the fun aspects of abstracts is seeing how small changes effect the viewer’s response. For this pair, the main difference is that I rotated the camera slightly. For me, the result is suprisingly dramatic in terms of my response. Both are 7 shot stacks of the ice and underwater vegetation in my backyard pond. Mark, these are really nice. Love the colors and patterns in it. You are really getting some nice ice shots. I think I like the second one the best, although if they were mine I would be very much pleased with either of them. Well done.
Wonderful energy and colors in these ice photos, Mark. Really am enjoying the angles and the abstract feel of both. They are both outstanding photos. Very nicely seen and executed.
Man, Mark! These are stunning. The angles and colors are just beautiful. How creative!
Great abstract with the shapes and colors! I slightly prefer the first, but the difference in preference is meaningless. Both look great.
Hey Mark,
I prefer the first post because in the second post there appear to be elements that are cut off in both the LRC (the reed)and the TLC (Part of a reflection) and the image seems more balanced in the first shot but you can’t go wrong with either of them. Also, the reds appear to be richer and more contrasty in the first image. You are killing it with your Frozen pond images lately Mark. Seriously good stuff. Happy Holidays
Mark: Your ice abstracts are always such a treat. I almost envy you the opportunity until I had to go chase down one of our cats this morning in 40 degree weather and was shivering my tail off. I do think I prefer sweating over shivering. Wonderful colors and I like the comp on both. Most excellent. >=))>
Mark,
The icescapes from your backyard pond you have shared with us have been totally amazing! It is the location that keeps on giving. There is so much to enjoy here from all of the diagonal shapes to the array of lovely color. I hope you have some more of these for us!
This is spectacular. I am partial to the first as well. For me, maybe just an illusion, but there is a little less local texture, and it feels more glassy. The colors are just wonderful.
Can you say more about why you stacked? I would think focus would be fine in a single image, but maybe that’s how you bring colors under the ice (and therefore further away) into sharper focus?
ML
This is likely the most beautiful patch of ice on the planet. Glad you were there to photograph it.
