Morning Anna's

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Here’s an early morning male anna’s hummingbird keeping a watchful eye on the feeder. I just wish the light angle would’ve picked up some of his red head…

Specific Feedback

I decided not to clone out that lower left branch because it helps balance the BG elements. Yeah? I also thought the liquid amber ball added a little interest so I left it in too.

Nice detailed look at the hummer. The background works with the hummer, though there’s some dark areas in front of the bill you might consider cloning out. My preference would be to remove the branch on the left.

Nice details on the bird Dave and fine exposure. The faint blobs in front of the beak look like sensor spots but that may not be the case. Agree with removing branch on left.

The hummer looks sharp with plenty of details. I like the hints of iridescence in the plumage. The background colors complement those on the hummers well. Others have already mentioned the dark spots in the image. I like the square crop, but think a vertical crop would also work.

Nice job on the hummer, Dave. I’d probably remove both of the background branches, but that’s an artistic call and you had a reason for choosing to leave them, so that’s all that matters.
