Morning Stroll

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There was wind, there was amazing sunrise color, and there was this lone hiker out there braving it all. Not me! I was hiding in my camper van, seeing all of this from my open door, marveling at the scene. But wondering what it would feel like to be buffeted about in that great expanse of sand…

Specific Feedback

Does this work as a monochromatic? Is it ok that there’s a human in this image?

Connie: Fantastic scene and you beat me to posting a similar one that I took at Great Sand Dunes NP. Mine was shot in the winter as well but no snow. I did get out of the car and do some exploring but I would much prefer to sweat than shiver. The sense of cold in your image gives it even greater impact IMO. Most excellent. >=))>

Very nice scene. And for me: a lot better with the person in the image (and in the right position), than without. It adds to the sense of scale. I like it a lot. And it is definitely monochromatic.
It is not clear to me if I’m looking at snow or white sand, however. What is it?

Hi Han,
Thank you for your comment on the person. I tried a version of it without her, and it was still interesting, but it became even more abstract. It is sand dunes in the Great Sand Dune National Park of Colorado.

Bill I just went back & looked at your Dunes photo (can anyone say Dune? :joy:) and fell in love with that place all over again. Incredible that you had the place to yourself. And couldn’t you just play play play all day with those lines and curves?!? I’m sure you did…

Connie , the early morning light on the sand is always a plus and the lone person does make the image very appealing and serves to give the image a sense of scale. I might crop a bit off the top off the image ,other than that , it’s well presented.

Really nice image Connie. The dreamy feel from the muted pastel color makes it stand out for me. I agree that adding the lone figure gives the image a great sense of scale.

Connie, the pink and blue pastels look great. The human stands out sharply from the softness of the blowing sands. The distant bit of sharper sands near the top are a fun addition as a change of context.
